At the start of the 20 th century, remarkable revival movements arose three times consecutively on the Korean peninsula: Wonsan Revival in 1903, Pyongyang Revival in 1907 and the Movement of Saving One Million Souls in 1909. The revival in Pyongyang was the most powerful manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the wave of this movement. It began at a winter Bible study for men in Jangdae Hyun Church from January 14 to 15, 1907.
George McCune who personally witnessed the outpouring of the Spirit on the Korean church reported that the movement greatly surpassed the ones in Wales and India, describing it as the most empowering presence of the Holy Spirit ever.
The revival of Jangdae Hyun Church spread like a prairie fire to all the churches in Pyongyang, including Namsanhyun Methodist Church, then continued to sweep across the peninsula. The Holy Spirit flamed on throughout country from January to June of 1907, leaving no place untouched.
Missionary Noble reported to a magazine, "Korean Mission Field" depicting it as the greatest manifestation of the Holy Spirit since the era of the Book of Acts.
